Relocation Agents

I've seen a variety of posts that mention getting a relocation agent, but there seem to be some pros and cons. Can anyone recommend what we should be looking for in a good agent or agency? We are going over on our own -- I'm a UK citizen who left the UK when I was 18, and my husband is a US citizen -- so we won't have a company behind us. I'm self-employed, and my husband will be opening a consultancy with a US-based colleague. Hence, we want to make sure we get this move right with the budgeting/planning, etc.
