Expat income tax and living expenses

I am hoping to relocate to London in Jan/Feb and have
already been approved for the HSMP work permit. Since
I will be making this move on my own, and will not be
sponsored by an employer, I am trying to determine
what I can reasonably afford to rent if a good portion
of my income will go to US and UK taxes.

For example, if I were to earn 50k pounds a year, what
can I expect to have left for monthly living expenses?

I'd appreciate any help you could provide or perhaps a
recommendation on who I should talk to.
