? about a visa, work, and location in UK

My friend and I plan on moving to England from Halifax, Nova Scotia (Canada) after graduating from university. We will both have a bachelor degree in commerce (majoring in finance.) The thing is we would like to move directly after graduation. I heard that I don't need a visa because both of my parents are from Poland and I could apply for some paper from the EU (can't think of the name at the moment.) However, my friend doesnt have any connections and hopes to get a visa (not just a holiday visa.) I'm guessing there is no other LEGAL way out of it?
Also Im wondering if it will be difficult to find a job with our education there. We're hoping that we won't be just scraping by, and I have done some research but would like to hear from someone.
Another thing, the place we are looking to move to is Manchester because while it is still a large city, costs of living are lower than London so we hope to get closer to the city centre. We heard bad things about Manchester and hesitate to believe them. I would love any information or if anyone would like to share their personal experiences.
We're both really excited to move regardless if my friend is stuck with just a holiday visa and any info would be great
