DVD player

I've learned that my US DVD's will not play on a European player, so I thought I'd bring my US player along and run it through a transformer.

Then someone pointed out that despite the power issue, given the wattage difference, the motor/laser might not work at the correct speed. Is this true?

Any experience to share would be greatly appreciated!
