Banned in the UK

Back in 2005 I foolishly hopped on a plane and flew to London looking for a change. At the immigration gates I stupidly mentioned that I was looking to interview with several companies in the area. After spending several hours in the holding tank my Passport got a rejection stamp and I was put on a return flight. I honestly wasn't aware of illegal employment issues and was fully prepared to go through the proper work visa process. Now, can I do anything to remove this stamp? I'd still love to relocate for a while, but I'd also just like to visit the cities that my grandfather grew up in around Scotland.
