I'm interested in moving in the UK but not sure if my qualifications can get me there. I'm a 28 year old attorney from the US, but I don't qualify for the Highly Skilled Immigrant Program because of the combination of my age and income (I'm slightly too old and earn slightly too little).
I don't currently have any job offers in the UK and don't know how to go about getting any. I've read up on becoming an attorney in the UK, and it seems relatively straightforward. It's more difficult in Ireland and Scotland (which is where I'd really like to end up), but not too hard to get recognized in Britain and than transfer to elsewhere in the UK.
My ideal situation would be to just go over there and bum around looking for places I like, a job, etc. I have savings that I could live off of for several months while I rent a small apartment, go on job interviews, work on immigration paperwork, etc.
Does anybody have any advice? This may all sound flippant, but I have nothing tying me to my currently location and have always dreamed of living in the UK (I've been there before) - and doing it this way seems a bit more practical than taking an unknown job or renting an apartment sight unseen. I am in no hurry - I would be taking my dogs along, and it will take nearly a year to get their paperwork completed anyway.
Thanks!
