I have read quite a few postings and their feedback. I hope those of you who are answering questions know how much your guidance is appreciated!
I am waiting on an offer with my present company to do a lateral move from our Chicago, IL, office to our London office, located in Harrow. This is an opportunity that I have asked for, not one that is based on client/company need (I'm worried this may inhibit my bargaining power.)
I am trying to determine what a decent salary would be to live in/around London. I have looked at currency converters, the average UK income, average industry salaries, and cannot seem to come up with a solid % increase. I know the exchange rate for US to UK is not to our advantage, and do not think a straight conversion of salary will give me salary I will need to live. Is there an overall % salary increase one should expect to receive? I do not want to compromise my current lifestyle, but obviously want the experience.
Here are some facts:
$50,000 current base salary
Lateral Move, Chicago US to London UK
Single
Some of my concerns, i.e. what should I request in negotiations:
401(k) will be non-existent
Will I have to pay UK and US taxes?
Relocation?
Any advice is appreciated, thanks for you help!
