US to UK moving and cost of living

(Cross posting from expatexchange.com » Topics » Living Overseas)

I currently live outside of Atlanta, Georgia in the US and am looking to go to the UK with my company. I have a wife and 2 kids (ages 5 & 7) and will be working primarily from home, when not traveling to customer sites. I have been offered pay in GBP at 70K base and a potential for 10K bonus. My US salary is $130K and $20K bonus so this looks to be even money.

I know nothing about UK taxes, and how much actual take home pay will be when the dust settles. Is this a good move? What are the "gotchas" of such a move?

Also, we may return in 2 years, so I'd like to keep everything in the US (cars, house, etc) if possible. I have family that can take care of things but I'd like to know if this is even feasible. I don't know if I can get rid of our house (its really tough to sell right now) and setting it up to rent would be difficult.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
