Want to marry a UK woman

My girlfriend and I are artists, and have been in touch with one another through skype/video,for quite some time, and although it's a long story, chances are, we will want to be married after we get together this May--- My question is, can we simply get married while I'm there, and then deal with all the visa stuff later after I return to the U.S.?
I would plan to return to the UK, a few months later, and remain.
