What Salary Should We Ask For in the UK?

My boyfriend and I are considering a move to the UK. Hes graduating with a Masters in Mechanical Engineering from a Canadian university and has found a possible job near Norwich that fits perfectly. Theyve asked him what salary he would expect and were not sure what to ask for. The job is in research and design for the automotive industry. His experience and expertise are quite specific to the job. Can anyone help us out? The range of salaries for engineers in the UK seems to be huge and wed love some help figuring out where hed fit into this. Thanks.
