Importing furniture/chattels to UK

HI.

After 12 months in the US, I am returning to the UK. I want to bring my furniture, computers, beds, etc back to the UK. Am I liable to customs charges on stuff I bought here?
I have looked around but cant find a definitive answer. One suggestion was that if my goods are for personal use and more than 6 months old, I should be okay, but would like to verify.
