health insurance

My boyfriend and I will be relocating to London next week. His company is providing him with health insurance for the UK. I, however, will not have any coverage. As I come from Canada, we are automatically covered here, so I'm not too sure how it works over in the UK. Should I buy health insurance before I go? Am I automatically covered by the NHS?
