probably early...stilll looking to make plans

Hello all....since I am far from the first to decide to move to England....can I get some tips on finding a flat or small cottage or bungalow? I keep finding vacation rentals rather than monthly rental ads. Isn't there something similar to the apartments.com or rent.com services here in hte US?
