Social Work Salary in the UK

I wanted to know if a social workers salary is good in the UK. I was talking to an agency and they said that I would start off with 28,000 in the UK. I just trying to make sure that I would actually be able to survive on 28,000 pounds. Anybody with experience please give me advice.
