usaf bf/fiance..in uk..best way to stay

hi i am new to this site and need some help.
my bf/fiance is in the usaf and we plan to live together. he resides off base so the living situation is set. he makes enough to support me while he is there.
so.... the whole thing is that we dont want to wed for a couple more years but plan on taking the dive. we do not want to feel rushed into marrige because of him living overseas.
does anyone have any advise that would be helpfull?
i also have a couple passport questions:
how long do i have to travel back to the us before i can return to the uk after staying for 6 months?

if i am traveling to the uk on my passport do i have to fill out any thing at the airport when i arrive if i plan to visit for 6 months?
