Moving to London

Hello, I am a planning to move to London the summer of 2011. I am a grad student and will finish my degree this semester in Urban Affairs, which deals with Community development, Non-profit management, and Public Policy. Also, I have a B.A. in English Literature and Sociology.

As a nomad I have moved around in the states. First from Michigan to Atlanta and then from Atlanta to Manhattan, all of which I did on my own with my two children. My goal is to start work before entering my PhD program 2012.

It seems that most expats moved over with a company; however, this is not my case. I need advice for someone applying for employment, a 2 bedroom flat, and schooling for my 16yrs old daughter. (My son is off to college)

In addition, my daughter has juvenile diabetes which she has medical insurance here in the states but I need to know how will this work in London. Will I need to buy international medical insurance for her?

I have been to London several times and have an idea of the different areas as well as traveling on public transportation. I will be back in London January 2011 in hope to build contacts and make preparations for the move. Also, my partner a native Brit, lives in Central London and has been very helpful but I would like to get as much information on my own. (Independence syndrome)

I have great references from past employers, Judges, lawyers, Doctors, and my Professors who all can give personal account of my character.

I really look forward to hearing back from everyone and would like to thank you in advance for your help.
