Visiting Visa

Hello we want to visit the UK to make sure my wife wants to emigrate what visa do we apply for for her to stay for up to six months on a one way ticket or is it better to get a round trip and do they just stamp it for six months I am British and she is a American and we are coming over from the states we have been married for 6 years and together for 12 it would be so nice if we could just get an Indefinite Leave to Remain if she decides to stay in the UK CHEERS
