Visiting with children

I'm an American, helping a friend look for a place to spend a month with his children this summer. They are a single parent family, with two kids of 8 and 11. They will be arriving in early June and staying through til July.

He has to be near Oxford for work-- is there anywhere that any of you would reccomend?

Some requirements:
inexpensive
Able to sleep 3, though 3 bedrooms aren't needed.
Safe for and welcoming of children
