UK Passport by Descent

I've applied for a UK passport by right of descent from my UK-born father. But my passport application is being rejected by HMPO because I don't have my ORIGINAL long form birth certificate. I was born in 1952. Certified copies issued more than 3 months after birth won't do.

As substitutes, they ask for things like my mother's maternity hospital admission/discharge records, baby books, pics from birth to maturity with ages specified on each snapshot, etc. From 1952? I don't think so.

So despite the fact my certified copy birth certificate was accepted for me to get both a US and an Irish passport, I've hit a brick wall with the UK.

Has anyone else had this experience?
