is Uxbridge a good place to live in Greater London?

Hi,
My husband has been offered a position in Hayes, Greater London and we have been told that most of his colleagues live in the Uxbridge area, but we are struggling to find out much about the place to know if it is suitable. We are British but have lived abroad for 5 years and have both never lived in London.
We are 30 and childfree so want somewhere more suited to a couple not a family. We like to eat out and have access to a nice pub. We enjoy nature and getting out for walks but also like a nice community feel, and somewhere that is a little fun.
My husband currently has a 3 hour commute to and from work so we want to be a maximum 1 hour but if possible 30-45 minute commute away. Would you recommend Uxbridge or it there somewhere else you think better suits our need?
