Good day, we arrive in UK in July next year. We are looking for areas to raise our child in and where we can find positions in a school to teach ( I have my QTS and my husband is completing his TA Cache Level 3 this year). I began researching by searching top affordable areas. I would find a list, pick an area, google it and find that it was voted the best to live in the UK. I would then scroll down and find obscene and foul adjectives to describe the town by people claiming they had lived there for x amount of time. Basing our view of the town on that person and their comments feeling that if there were more people like that person still left in that town we wouldn’t want to live there either. Each town I searched was voted the best town to live in followed by the same abusive comments. Beyond Manchester has not yielded a single positive comment about any area that is affordable. Yorkshire, Lancastershire, Cumbria, Durham and Sunderland as well as areas in the East Midlands are completely slated. Why is this? I have never seen such foul language used on forums describing people’s home towns or places they have lived in the UK. We come from a country where like the outdoors, we value open spaces, we want our child raised out of the city. We are looking for an area where we can afford a small home that is affordable. Our main focus is our daughter having facilities where she can enjoy going to the park, the library, be involved in community events etc. We don’t drink or smoke (Ive read the cost of both are high) and are minimalists. We prefer to lead a quiet life and don’t do social gatherings etc. Does anyone on this forum have any advice on an area or multiple areas? Does any know of any articles or websites that are a true reflection of areas. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
