Permanent residency and working remotely ?

Hello,

I currently am a US National living in the United States. I am considering a change of pace and am interested in moving to South America. After much research I am most interested in Uruguay.

I work for an immigration company (as an accountant) so I understand the requirements and general steps needed.

My my main question is regarding poi. (Proof of income). I am salaried and work remotely but I am concerned the authorities may not accept this as poi.

I am not under an employment contract at the moment. If I stay salaried via USA payroll, will this be ok?

If not what other options are there? I could try to convince my employer to 1099 me under an employment contract and they pay me local.

I would ask my employer currently but I am in the early stages of this and don't want to jump the gun, per say.

thanks for you comments.
