Thyroid medicine availability

I am on thyroid hormone replacement medicine aka levothyroxin or synthroid and was wondering if that is available at the pharmacy without a prescription? Does anyone on this group take that medicine and know if I need to see a doctor to get it? I have read that certain medicines that you need prescription for here in the states are available over the counter so I am wondering if maybe this is one of them.
