In the States an architect that you were considering hiring for a fairly big job (?interviewing? one of several you wanted to talk to) would come by, see the project, talk about your needs/plans, go away and do a few preliminary drawings and give a bid (no charge to THAT point).
Yesterday an architect came by, walked through with us and, (as i understood it) basically said it would be $400 USD to do the preliminary drawings, a rough budget etc - is that standard?
What is the usual pattern?
