Aug 25 Independence Day/New Years

I have a very green question. How is August 25th celebrated? I have never been in Uruguay during this time and we are landing that day to sign papers to our new home (near Jose Ignacio) that week. I'd love to know what to expect. Are businesses closed? Are there celebrations? What is customary? Is Monday the 26th affected in any way? Thanks!
