Sad to see that Uruguay went from 1st in the world or 2nd in controlling Covid to the worst. Numbers here are terrible despite the vaccines they are giving out. Unfortunately the SinoVac which is all they have is the least effective option at just over 50%
To the point of my post. After getting 2 shots of the SinoVac and waiting for it to become effective we flew back to our home in the US for a few weeks. We were given the option for a same day drive through appointment for the Phizer.
Speaking to Doctor friends and an infectious disease expert it is clear that no one knows if getting 2 shots of a completely different vaccine is safe or not. General consensus of the varies experts however is that the risk from Covid at our age is worse than possible reactions if going to a place with a high infection rate (Uruguay) .
Due to timing we can only get the first shot at the moment but in a few months we are supposed to return or by then Uruguay may have the Phizer vaccine as well. Still one shot of Phizer is 80% effective while the chinese one is 50%. There is even a school of thought that getting two different types of vaccines will give you broader protection.
So how many of you are traveling to your home country and seeking a better shot there? Are you taking the one offered in Uruguay and looking to double up or will you stick with the SinoVac, and finally anyone not planning to vaccinate? (I for one will not judge you and will keep my private thoughts on the matter to myself!
We do know quite few wealthy Argentineans who went to the US for their shots already bu no Uruguayans who did that.
