Half Blood Children raised in present day Vietnam

Hi there.

I have joined this forum as I need urgent answers as to what it is going to be like for my new born son to be raised in Vietnam.

His mother is from Thai Binh, I meet her here in New Zealand, she had been staying here unlawfully for over 4 years by the time we had him.

We are now separated, due to huge problems in our relationship, there is too much disagreement and arguing, it is best we don't see each other for Kato's (my son) sake, or at least not in front of him, because there is too much unrest.

Our biggest challenge we face now is how we will raise him. It is unlikely that we can fix mummys visa situation is NZ, and she is not happy with me raising him as a single farther if she had to go back to Vietnam.

She is now telling me she will send him Back to Thai Binh to be looked after by her parents, while she continuing to work illegally in NZ and sends money back to support him.

In theory the plan should be ok, as her family is doing ok in terms of business in Thai Binh, and have sufficient money and resources to give him a good life until we figure out a way to bring him back to NZ.

What I really need to know is, how will he be treated be society and other kids over there? What will it be like for him growing up?

The good thing is he'll have anything wants and needs as mum and I will work in NZ and send money and supplies.

But how will present day Vietnam treat him?
I know it was horrible for the half blood children that were born after the war, and that is our main concern. But that was 50 years ago, surely the new generation will be more open minded?

Any questions please ask, but try to comment/answer my main concern rather than spiraling off excessively in other directions.

I'm still fighting with mum to let him stay with me in NZ, but her image of me is really bad and she just doesn't believe I can do a good job of raising him.
