food through customs

Are there strict regulations of what food you can bring and not bring to Vietnam like the US. If so does anyone know what is acceptable and what is not. I have heard that Vietnamese supermarkets are well stocked so I am not worried about starving but like to bring some snacks like a cheese for instance.
Any info would be appreciated. In advance, thank you very much.
