Corruption in Nicaragua

If you are planning on moving to Nicaragua, you should take several things into consideration. You will not have all the convienences of europe and the USA. The language can and will be a barrier. You are moving into a culture that will be totally new and unfimiliar to you. You will have to do the changing because they are not. There is a saying here" if you give a Nica an hand, he will take it off at the shoulder". This is very true. My wife and I have been here for 30 months. We have residency, paid all the taxes on everything we brought to Nicaragua, have banking accounts in Nicaragua, have bought cars in Nicaragua and contribute $ 40,000 a year to the economy of Nicaragua. We have worked at being good people in Nicaragua. We hire 8 t0 ten people and pay better than avergae wages here.
Now ! what will this get you in Nicaragua? My home was illegally searched, I was illegally arrested with false documents and thrown in jail for 15 days. No evidence was found during hthe search of furniture that I was supposed to have stolen. Two North Americans and one Nica was under the impression I had a lot of money. They dreamed up this plan to accuse me of stealing furniture to extort $ 10,000 from me. The two North Americans Michael Alan Reed of Spirit lake, Iowa. michael Reed can't return to the USA without being arrested for tax fraud and evasion. He owes nearly a million dollars. and Fredrick David Allen Tucker ( a pathetic alcoholic ) and Alfonso de Jesus Silva Carmona Jr. paid two police officers Capt. Antonio Diaz and Alfonso del Los Angles Silva Rodriquez to bypass norman police channels and have me thrown in jail. I was then taken before a judge, Daniel Gonzalez Balladares and even though there was no evidence, was put back in jail. This judge was paid $ 2000 for his part.. Doris Baez a judge from Corinto was also paid $ 2000 for making out illegal papers against me. I am 69 years old, have had two back surgeries, neck surgery, both knees replaced and a bad kidney. I was placed in a cell that was designed for 2 people but housed 8. My bed was a wet cement floor. Privacy is none existant. Your drinking water and restroom are the same system. I was kept in this jail( Leon) for 15 days in order to to try to extort money from me. They figured that with my age I would pay money to get out. I don't pay extortion. I was taken to trial and after two months I was found innocent of all charges and two of the witnesses were caught lying on the stand. Several of the witnesses were paid off but the case was so weak that I was found innocent anyway. This however does nothing for the large amount of money I spent on legal fees and the disruption of our lives. I had to post $ 2200 in bond to be released from jail. The court made a mistake on one paper and mispelled my name and now we can't get our money back and the court wont make the correction. My wife was a real trooper through all of this and I am extremely proud of her.
Before you make your decision on moving to a tropical paradise you need to check out all the possibilities. You can butter it up all you want but if it looks like crapand smells like crap, it probably is. If you get into a fix here, don't depend on the American Embassy to help you out. They will give you two books to read, a list of lawyers, a paper that tells you you need to learn spanish if you are going to jail in Nicaragua. If you are alone in Nicaragua and go to jail, you are screwed. The only reason we are still in Nicaragua is because we are trying to fight the corruption and correct the wrong that was done to us. These people are going to jail and unlike them, we do have evidence and reliable witnesses. I hope this will be posted. It seems as thought they only post positive stuff about these countries.
