Looking to make friends/Pen pals

Well I'm making the move to Nica within a year at most. Still waiting on some things to finalize here that's going to determine whether or not I'll be able to leave soon. Would enjoy making friends with Expats or locals as I transition into my new life so would be helpful to get tips prior to leaving. I'm still working on my Spanish for now and hoping to be fluent enough before I arrive. I had a semester at University but it's been so long since i've used it's mostly forgotten.
