I am now ready to go next Feb or March. I am still not sure where I want to live yet. I am thinking in the mountains near Mombacho/Granada.
I was amazed at how friendly everyone was, although I did have to pay the policia a $25 fee for supposedly not using a turn signal. After the Pacific "ate" my glasses, I turned the rental car in and just used buses - beware of waves with undertows even when just sitting on the beach in dry sand!
The people at the hotel in Managua were amazing. They helped me figure out the bus system. One of the staff even rode with me a couple of times to get me where I needed to go. Another made calls to find out about times and directions to places to visit. This was not a big luxury hotel but just a small place in a so-so neighborhood (Art Hotel Managua).
I need to get busy on learning Spanish now for sure. Very, very few people I met spoke any English. I have to say Nicaragua more than met my expectations.
