Truck Purchase

After reading through several years of posts (yeah, I actually did that first) I did not seem to find an answer to a specific set of questions, so here goes.
Once a resident, what would be the best 4x4 or even 6x6 truck to buy south of the US border for use and registration in Nicaragua? I doubt I will have a use for a car since when I drive It will most likely be to go get something requiring a truck or a need to pull or take something somewhere. I did not grow up a cityboy so bad dirt roads were common when there was a road at all. Except for the most modern US models I can break down and rebuild just about any vehicle as I expect many here can as well. Can even run equipment on wood chips if I have to. (Amazing if you have not done it, but another topic)
I hear Nic dealers are high so would it be more economical to buy in a neighboring country? What would I expect to pay for a new truck? Would I be insane to buy a used one and would the price be more reasonable? Tires-not to be forgotten, where is the most reasonable place to get good good off-road/no road ones?
Feel free to add info I did not ask about. I retire next September, have to go back to Texas to twrap up family issues, figure another year for that, then expat myself to Nicaragua.
