Sept. 15

Monday, September 15, is Independence Day, not only for Nicaragua but most of Central America. The history of Central America is different than other parts of the Americas and makes for interesting reading.

The entire month of September is Patriotic Month. Flags are flying and rockets have started blasting. The holiday spirit is in the air. As usual, be careful around holidays as the Flor de Cana and Mombacho flow freely. Banks and government offices will be closed on Monday.

Be extra careful in crowds, on the road and at the beaches. It is also good to be careful in the days following the celebrations as there are folks who come to town, spend all their money and then need easy cash for bus fare to get home.
