Border crossing questions

I have a health issue that gives me about 5 or 6 good hours a day. After that I'm pretty much done.

I've never been to C.R. by land and need to make my first trip before Jan. 30.

Does anyone know what day would be the least amount of traffic? Also, would you advise trying to cross over and then turn around and come right back? I'd buy return bus tickets ahead of time. I don't care if I use them or not. Just want to get there, do this and return to Granada as quickly as possible. Any advice? Thanks again for you folks being here for us rookies.
