Banking and misc Q's

Hello all!

I have recently decided to take the plunge and move to Managua from the US. I do not plan on becoming a resident quite yet so I would be on a tourist visa and maybe reset it a few times before going for residency. I have doing as much research as I can but some things are a bit harder to get an absolute answer so I was hoping some kind people might be able to share some experience/knowledge.

My situation: I will have a place to live and job opportunities before moving down. I will be living with a good friend who is a native.

First question is about banking. I have read you need to be a resident (which I do not plan on doing at first). What I also heard is that they have CitiBank there. If I were to open an account with CitiBank in America could it transfer as having a fully operational account in Nicaragua? I have a feeling it doesn't work that way but have to ask. I would try to find out myself but we have no CitiBank branches within 50 miles (more than that in actuality).

How is ordering things online? I make a majority of purchases online and wonder how it is getting things from Amazon in the US to your doorstep considering customs and the reliability of the mail service in Nic (which I don't know if it is good or bad?). Also do you feel like ordering anything expensive in the mail is just asking to be stolen while in shipping or is the mail pretty trustworthy? I know people are people everywhere but accountability, supervision and public opinion are different from country to country.

Those were my two major question for the moment. I appreciate any and all feedback!

Gracias!
