Off the top of my head, I find there are some very real challenges most will have to adapt to you if you think of expat/moving to Nicalandia. I am sure many other fellow contributors can add to this list. 1. First and foremost you are a gringo and always be identified as such. 2. You will be hard-pressed to find anyone who understands Engish or your attempt at Spanish. 3. Multi-tasking has not reached here yet. 4. Expect your neighbor cooks on open wood fires. 5. Expect to find religious revivals with bullhorns find their way to your neighborhood. 6. Everyone' 'precious puppy' within a couple months will be roaming your street day and night looking for love and/or a Fight Club.. 7. Cats is not a musical but your metal rooftop companions making howling love while you try to sleep. 8. Everyone gets up at dawn gets home at dark and the streets roll up. 9. Sidewalks are a fantasy. 10. Transportation system: #1 foot. #2 bike #3 motorcycle #4 bus #5 taxi. 11. At dusk daily, holiday and Sundays, the roads are owned by walkers. 12. 'Free medical care' means sitting for a day in a crowded hospital room and your medicine is not in stock. "And lucky 13". If you are over 55 banks do not give loans and once 65, you are expected to die quietly with dignity.
