2020 Retirement Planning

Hello, my husband and I plan on retiring to Nicaragua in January of 2020. We've visited twice and have loved the country. Last month we participated in a retirement tour through Retire Pedia.

Our plan is to rent furnished homes or apartments and move around to find the community that best suits us. At that point we might buy or build ... or we might just keep renting.

For budget, we're looking at approximately $1,500 a month.. Any feedback regarding what type of lifestyle that would provide would be very welcome.

We aren't looking for anything extravagant but would like to be comfortable and preferably close to water. We LOVE Laguna de Apoyo (I'd be out on the lake in a kayak every morning if I could) but realize that's not realistic. So we're looking at the white villages near there or something on the coast.

We also really liked the Matagalpa area but understand that furnished homes in the highlands are hard to find. Is that true?

We're LDS (Mormon) so we're fortunate to be able to have that community connection. Any chance there are other LDS expats out there?

While our Spanish is currently almost non existent, we plan to start Spanish classes this year and will do the immersion/home stay programs during future visits and when we make the move.

We're really looking forward to the adventure and would love any feedback and information.

Thanks!
