Expats from Leon to San Juan Del Sur

I see about 200 miles of beach and cliff shore between Leon and San Juan Del Sur. It looks like it is not very heavily populated. I know some of it is probably not even accessible from the road by car. Questions.....Are there many expats living in this area? Is the area safe for expat living? I have looked into retiring in Belize and Mexico and this are looks like the areas I like. I just stumbled across this area from a thread on the Mexico forum here. Please shed some light on the pluses and minuses of living here. I have spend a few days using the search window here and gained quite a bit of info. Thanks
