If you live in Nic. you have probably not received your new card (without your social security number) because they will not mail it to a foreign country.
When you return to the US you are a non-person until you do a change of address and get the new card sent to you which may take 30 days.

I found this out when I was denied an appointment for a covid vaccine for not having the new card/number.

Do what you gotta do to get the card when/before you go the the US.
