Moving with four dogs

I would really like to know the ins and outs of moving with our dogs. I live in Washington State and I'm concerned about them getting separated from us, or how long they would be in the cargo area, and what happens if there are lay overs.

How prevalent are the bugs, snakes, mosquitoes, and scorpions? Do they make life too uncomfortable?
