officials and law enforcement attitudes towards expats/Americans ?

I guess many of you would not still be in Nica if you felt uncomfortable. Just curious how your interactions have been with all official types around the country ? We plan to live in the mountains away from the big tourist/expat cities. Curious to see what interactions are like when they aren't used to seeing lots and lots of extranjeros ? I am just guessing that you all have had positive experiences ? Thanks
