Barbados Banks and Savings Accounts

Hi - I'm living in the US and want to start saving to build in Barbados. When I last visited I was told it was hard to get a loan there due to the tight banking requirements for expats. Any suggestions? I'm thinking about starting an account with a Canadian bank but not sure if that's the best options.
