Hello everyone,
I’m planning to move to Cambodia and have spent over two years researching it. I genuinely believe it’s the place where I want to build a long-term future. Currently, I’m in a very toxic and unhealthy situation, and I need to leave to distance myself from the person perpetuating it. This move would give me the chance to heal and find peace.
A bit about me: I’m a high school dropout who earned a GED and completed 30 credit hours in college. I’d like to continue my education online if possible. I have 13 years of experience in customer service, primarily in restaurants, working in various positions including serving and management. I was part of a franchise team that turned around underperforming stores (over 14 locations in total), assisting in assessing and fixing issues. However, I realized this wasn’t what I wanted to do long-term and decided to go back to school—then COVID hit.
Currently, I work in the shipping department of a semiconductor facility and also have a second job in a prototyping shop. This shop specializes in CNC work, 3D printing, and sheet metal cutting for the aerospace industry. While these jobs are fulfilling in some ways, my personal life has become unbearable, and I desperately need a change of environment to find peace.
I’ve been studying computer science and training myself in data analytics with the goal of becoming a data analyst, and later, a data engineer. That said, my knowledge and skills are at a very basic level, with no practical or work experience. I’d need on-the-job training to grow into such a role. Additionally, I have skills in video and sound editing. I was raised to be a jack-of-all-trades, master of none, and I’m a workhorse with a strong work ethic.
Despite over two years of applying and following up on remote job applications, I’ve not been able to secure even an interview. I currently have the tech and capacity to perform high-caliber remote jobs but have struggled to find opportunities. Ideally, I’d like to work for a company that pays a similar salary to what I make in the U.S. so I can live comfortably in Cambodia. This would allow me to focus on my mental, spiritual, and emotional healing rather than constantly stressing about bills and rent.
I have even applied to jobs in Cambodia, though the pay is often just a fraction of my current income. I’ve saved $4,000 and would be willing to move immediately and start fresh, but I fear moving without a job would put me in a precarious situation. I’ve been learning basic Khmer phrases and have purchased the latest Vasko translator to help me integrate.
I’m reaching out to this community for help finding a remote job or even an in-person job in Cambodia. Any advice, leads, or guidance you could provide would be immensely appreciated. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and for any support you can offer.
