Moving to Croatia

I have experienced Croatia in the Summer - just wondering how cold are the Winters there ?
What are the best parts of retiring / semi retiring to Croatia from those that have already done that ? I am thinking of renting for 6 months ahead of buying a home there - possibly in or close to Zadar - any comments about that location as a place to start ?
