Toilets

Maybe this is a weird questions, but I don't know anything about plumbing. I am currently staying in a newer building in Cuenca (renting), and the toilet paper flushes without any problems at all.

No one ever seems to have an issue with throwing dirty toilet paper in a trash can, and it's never a topic of conversation or a topic in real estate listings; but I seriously cannot deal with throwing dirty toilet paper into a trash can.

My question is, if I buy an older building, what would I need to do to make sure the toilets can handle toilet paper? Do I need simply to buy new, modern toilets, or will there be a lot of other work that needs to be done to modernize the building so the toilets can handle toilet paper? I honestly know nothing about plumbing, so I don't know if a building would need all new pipes or, well, I don't know what.

Anyone out there know anything about this?
