Proof of Insurane

Upon arriving in Portugal, will I find that acquiring health insurance from within the country less expensive than what I'm finding online from the United States?

I'm finding quotes from around $800-$2,000 per month; probably due to my age.

I can bring down the monthly cost to around $300 with a high deductible. ($10,000.00)

I have most of my documents ready to submit with my application except for the proof of insurance.................sigh...

Thanks for you input and advice. I'm really eager to experience Portugal!
